Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson call off their engagement

The singer, 25, and "SNL" star, 24, called off their engagement over the weekend, according to TMZ.

Their relationship was put in the fast lane in May when they became engaged after just weeks of dating.

"The two still have love for each other, but things are over romantically", TMZ says.

A Grande source told People that their relationship "was way too much too soon" and that the breakup is "not shocking to anyone". The last time we saw them together was just last week.

Grande had titled a track on her new chart-dominating album Sweetener after Davidson himself, "Pete Davidson", and the pair made their red carpet debut at the VMAs in August.

The celebrity couple has split and called off the engagement, sources told TMZ.

As the son of a firefighter who died in 9/11, fans considered Pete a great match for Ariana who - in the wake of the Manchester bombing - has been enduring her own trauma.

Ariana has had a heartbreaking time of late, with ex-boyfriend Mac Miller dying of a suspected overdose in September. The conversation strayed onto the topic of prenups, and Davidson joked that while Grande pays $60,000 for rent, he just stocks the fridge.

Grande has also recently been contending with undisclosed personal issues that reportedly prompted the singer to take a break from work to focus on her well-being. As of Sunday evening, Grande had not deleted photos and videos of Davidson from her social media accounts, but Davidson's accounts were no longer active.

Looking directly at the camera, Frankie then tells Ari: 'You know you've got to keep, keep on breathing - that's true'.

Follwing the split, Ariana cancelled a performance at a charity event that was honouring her manager Scooter Braun's wife.
