Kelly interviewed the "InfoWars" founder and popular conspiratorial talk radio host in an interview in which she tried to grill him on some of his more controversial claims.

It wasn't enough to rescue her or the program, however, as NBC News reported Friday morning she is negotiating her exit from the network. She and I went to the Kentucky Derby two years ago and we bonded.

A former corporate defense attorney, Kelly made her name at Fox News discussing politics in prime time. I'm also very excited about the next chapter. "Back when I was a kid, that was okay as long as you were dressing up as like a character". People close to the matter said Thursday that Kelly's lawyers and NBC brass planned to meet Friday to hash out the details of their relationship.

Unfortunately for those expecting any kind of inside scoop from the reporters who work with Kelly, the package that aired only served as a confirmation of everything that was previously reported. At the same time, her former association with Fox caused some NBC colleagues and viewers to regard her with suspicion.

NBC News staffers were calling her show a "disaster" well before this latest controversy.

Hall's departure "saddened" the National Association of Black Journalists, which noted that replacing Hall and Roker with Kelly was "seen by industry professionals as whitewashing".

"Today" aired a segment about Kelly's comments, which included critical tweets and a clip of Kelly's 2013 on-air comments on Fox News insisting that Santa Claus was white.

NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack condemned the remarks in a staff meeting, according to a report on the network's "Today" morning show on Friday. W&G star Debra Messing felt compelled to assure fans, "Honestly I didn't know it was [Megyn Kelly] until that morning".

Although Kelly may have attempted a fresh start at NBC, she couldn't always escape her baggage.

"She was trying to spread her wings and do a different type of show", Martin said. Well, I was wrong and I am sorry.

However, Kelly was the one who looked bad after Jones released uncut recordings of his comments with Kelly - which exposed not only her lack of honesty toward Jones, but also deceptive editing tactics by her and her team. Al Roker said "she owes a big apology to people of colour across the country".
