Besides deals, retailers have also been introducing new technology to make it easier to shop inside their stores.

The 96-acre mall was instantly filled up when it opened up its doors at 5 a.m.

"Retailers are pulling out all the stops to get shoppers earlier with online deals and using online to push shoppers in the store", said Marshal Cohen, chief industry adviser at the NPD Group, a market research group. "I think retailers have evolved in that as well, some retailers have sales on for a couple days ahead of time and what you see on a day like today is sales with a whole bunch of door crashers and so people who want to be out shopping, absolutely come for those door crashers and then we see a real influx of traffic around noon and usually from 5 - 6 p.m.as well", said Milne.

Unsurprisingly, the revamp hasn't fully solved the Black Friday chaos.

"I have three boys and a husband that love Legos, so we're here", one shopper said.
