Sony launches Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse mobile AR experience

Just weeks ahead of the film's release in theaters, Sony Pictures Entertainment has revealed plans for both a sequel and a spinoff for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. David Callaham (The Expendables, Wonder Woman 1984) is writing the film. The outlet specifically mentions Miles Morales' starring role in Spider-Verse, so here's hoping for more Miles content in the sequel for sure.

The Spider-Verse Web AR Experience was created by mixed reality developers 8th Wall and Trigger and is powered by Amazon Web Services technology.

Additionally, Sony is reportedly working on an animated movie based on female Spider-Man heroes, directed by Lauren Montgomery, the co-director of Batman: Year One. Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, the brains behind the Lego movies, orchestrated Into The Spider-Verse, and will continue to help expand the animated superhero universe. So it's a good thing he's got Peter Parker (Jake Johnson) by his side to teach him the ropes (or is the webs?) of being your friendly neighborhood webslinger - as they're being pursued by evil, laser-wielding scientists.

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

Amy Pascal is producing the sequel and spin-offs, and Lord and Miller are expected to also return in a creative capacity.

Swinging into theaters on December 14, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel.
