Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku, center, celebrates scoring his side's third goal of the game during their English Premier League soccer match against Fulham at Old Trafford, Manchester, England, Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018.

The victory saw under-fire boss Jose Mourinho get back to winning ways in a week which has seen his own future at the club questioned.

United have not won the league since 2012-13 and Mourinho's side are already eighth and 18 points adrift of reigning champions City after 15 matches this season.

They did emerge from the bench as second-half substitutes as United sought a late victor, but their introduction saw the energy levels dip, with the Gunners looking the most likely to score towards the end.

"The team was good, not so much in the second half but in the first half [Phil] Jones and [Chris] Smalling brought the team up, we were a compact unit that gave no chance to Fulham in the first half".

"I want to be positive and say we are going to win, but we have to give credit to [Fulham], it will not be 11 against zero".

"The day we are stronger defensively, I think the horizons for Fred change completely". At times it was attractive football.

Ranieri told Sky Sports: "I had to consider why in the first half we didn't play, and in the second half I was very satisfied, but our best moment was [followed by] the second yellow card for Anguissa".

With Anthony Martial not fit enough to feature against Fulham, Rashford starred from the left-wing but United's number ten can also play on the right and through the middle.

"We were intense without the ball and with the ball". Without the ball we pressed, we kept Mitrovic away from goal. With the ball it was simple, one or two touches.

The youngster also provided assists for each of Man Utd's opening two goals and was eventually rewarded in the form of a goal for superb efforts in recent matches. Let's see if we can get more points from those matches.
