Merry Christmas forecast: All is calm

We will get a break from the rain Friday afternoon through early Saturday.

Happy Christmas Eve! It is a cold, frost start to the day. A high of 40 is expected under mostly cloudy skies on Wednesday.

A White Christmas is defined as an inch of snow on the ground on Christmas morning. "It can switch the precipitation over to rain or create a mix, which drastically reduces how much snow you get". It was a snowy Christmas a year ago but it technically didn't count as a white Christmas.

Holiday travel will be very hard because of heavy and blowing snow and reduced visibility, the weather service said. Mostly cloudy skies will see some breaks of sun in the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the lower 30s with a slight easterly breeze.

A potent storm expected after the Christmas holiday

The forecast for the Bemidji area calls for a 50 percent chance of light snow after noon on Wednesday, with a high temperature of 22 degrees. Expect sunshine and cooler temperatures.

If you are traveling in the days after Christmas, this storm will have the potential to impact travel conditions for the end of the week. Warmer air mixing in on the south side of that storm system will keep rain in the weather picture as it stands right now for the daylight hours.
