There was a time when you could tell what a vehicle was from its badge, but that's all been lost, and although Porsche has been using "Turbo" for an age, all its 911 engines are now "Turbo", so it's become just the name of the top of the range model. With the upcoming new electric Porsche, the Taycan, Porsche looks to take the lead back.

The names - the Taycan for the base model, Taycan 4S for the all-wheel drive version and Taycan Turbo for the performance variant - as well as prices ranges for each were first reported by columnist Alex Roy.

One demographic Porsche is not shy about appealing to is Tesla Model S owners.

The auto is set to feature over 600 horsepower and a range of over 482 km, according to Cnet's Road Show publication.

Porsche has not said exactly how many pre-orders it has received, but has said worldwide production targets for its first year were about 20,000 cars, before announcing early December 2018 that strong demand will likely drive that number upwards. Typically, if we look at our source of business, people coming from other brands, it's Audi, BMW, or Mercedes. The no.1 brand now is Tesla. Zellmer did not say how many people had made deposits or how many units of the Taycan will be produced this year and afterwards. For reference, Porsche sells around 600 cars annually in Norway between all of their models.
