Stranger Things season 3 coming to Netflix in July

That changed on New Year'd Eve, when Netflix dropped a very creepy promo video.

The kids from Stranger Things are ringing in the new year with a new release date for the latest season of the streaming smash. Sharing the official artwork for the show's third season, the premiere date for the next season was also revealed to be July 4.

Netflix is making sure Stranger Things fans start 2019 with some good news. The date was confirmed January 1 with an Independence Day-themed poster showing Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown) holding hands with Mike (Finn Wolfhard) as other characters admire fireworks bursting in the distance.

Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things has been a huge hit for Netflix with its mix of horror and sci-fi, and the copious nostalgic references to 80s pop culture.

"It's a handcrafted show", said Holland, the service's vice president of original content.

In March, executive producer Shawn Levy gave attendees at the PaleyFest television festival some scoop on what would be going down in season 3.

Diehard fans may want to take note of some of the clues here to decipher later. The show will still be under the direction of series creators Matt and Ross Duffer.

It's a good thing you will probably already be off for the Fourth of July.
