Google Assistant Installed Base Is Reportedly 10x Larger Than Amazon Alexa

Amazon has revealed that it has sold over 100 million devices with Alexa built in.

Samsung Electronics' decision to include other AI platforms that rival Samsung's Bixby was interpreted as the company's acknowledgement of the limits faced by Bixby's English version in its global expansion, as it was being outperformed by Google Assistant and Alexa.

Thanks to a report from The Verge, we also have really recent numbers for Alexa. Dave said that Amazon is still a big believer in multiple assistants and they won't ever restrict a hardware startup to just Alexa alone, which fairly leaves the market open for fair competition. There's a range of smart speakers like the Google Home line and third-party devices from JBL, Sony, Panasonic, LG, and more. With a phone running Android Auto, you can have access to the Assistant from your car's infotainment screen. At the office, Google Assistant will play well with G Suite.

Google announced a major milestone for Google Assistant today. Google Assistant is now multilingual too, so customers can speak more than one language to it inside their homes.

Along with Android smartphones, Google is also selling more devices that support Assistant.

By saying, "Hey Alexa" or "OK Google", you'll be able to turn your TV on or off, change channels, and even swap input selections. And it has worked pretty well for Google.

The company expects Assistant to be available on one billion devices by the end of this month.

After Google introduced Continued Conversation for the Google Assistant last summer, Google Assistant can now understand and respond to users in a more natural tone.

It wasn't long ago that the Google Assistant was a Pixel-exclusive feature. Its daily and monthly active user base has grown four times since this point a year ago, according to Google. The company said Assistant is now compatible with over 10,000 smart home devices from over 1,600 brands, up from the 5,000 devices from May 2018.
