5G, 12 gigs of RAM, and Snapdragon 855Aside from all the technological innovations that the Vivo Apex 2019 brings to the table, it is also a powerful phone (as if that's surprising).

The Vivo Apex 2019's screen doubles as a speaker as it uses a piezoelectric transducer to emit sound.

The new concept smartphone by the company has various highlights, the first one being the absence of physical ports for wireless usage, much like the very recent Meizu Zero.

When it comes to new innovative technology integrated into a smartphone, Vivo comes into the list of those manufacturers who actually build high-end devices.

Rather than a USB port there's a MagPort for a magnetic connection to the phone's rear.

This is still just a concept smartphone, it shows the direction Vivo might take with its future smartphones, the same as it did with the previous Apex and the NEX smartphone that followed up.

Under the hood, Vivo Apex 2019 concept smartphone is a beast. This is Vivo's solution to free up space for the 5G modules, making the phone a true unibody 5G phone.

The Apex 2019 is a lot different from the original Apex concept smartphone, announced previous year. To recollect the Vivo APEX that launched past year brought the pop-up selfie camera trend.

For starters the Apex 2019 has a port, of sorts.

The Vivo APEX 2019 will also feature new in-display fingerprint technology on the bottom half of the screen allowing for two fingerprints to be scanned at the same time. This year they appear to have nixed the front facing camera entirely. Keeping up with this overarching theme, the phone doesn't even have a camera hump - its back is completely flat! Not only is it odd that it didn't provide any information about the dual rear module, but it didn't even mention the fact that there is no front camera. Naturally, this posed a bit of a problem, as you had to make sure that you were pressing on the right spot, which wasn't made any easier by the smooth surface of the screen.

As per a teaser video published by Vivo on Monday, the Chinese smartphone maker is expected to showcase its next-generation elevating selfie camera implementation as a part of the Vivo Apex 2019 smartphone. Stay tuned for updates.
