School district keeping an eye on cold forecast

The Francis Howell School District tells us it does not have a specific temperature range that would force the cancellation of classes.

Temperatures might not recover to zero until around 3 p.m. Thursday - a possible 45-hour stretch of below-zero temperatures that could rank among the longest.

As a general rule, if your student could get frostbite by standing outside for ten minutes, school would likely be canceled, but the schools reserve the right to make those decisions at less severe temperatures as well.

Due to the two-day cancelation, CPS said they intend to add two additional days to the end of the school year to "ensure students receive the full 178 instructional days on the district's calendar".

Lincoln County Schools in Tennessee will be closed Tuesday. All Minneapolis Community Education evening classes and all athletic and school-sponsored activities are also canceled. When the National Weather Service issues wind chill advisories between -15 and -25 degrees, the Buffalo Public Schools will strongly consider closing.

The extreme cold could lead to some school closures this week.

St. Paul Public Schools, Anoka-Hennepin Schools, Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools and Osseo Area Schools have also announced they will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. The university announced the dental clinic will also be closed during this time.

Pass Christian Schools will remain open tomorrow.
