Huawei will officially announce the Mate X at its Mobile World Congress keynote on February 24th.

If you need any more proof that foldable phones are the next big thing, take a look at this leaked Huawei banner.

We can't glean anything technical from the poster, sadly, but we can see clear design elements. Like the just-unveiled Samsung Galaxy Fold, Huawei's phone seems to fold flat, unlike the Royole Flexpai But like the latter, the Mate X's screen is on the outside, like a book cover. Multiple cameras and Huawei's branding are all visible.

Based on the banner, the Huawei Mate X folds its flexible screen outward, so it can expand its single display from being the size of a small smartphone to one that's the size of a tablet.

It looks like Samsung will not be able to hold on to the title of the world's only (practical) folding phone for very long.

Do our readers think Huawei's version is compelling? And a few weeks before that, Huawei pushed out this other teaser image that shows the phone's hinge. Samsung is releasing a 5G variant of the Galaxy Fold at some point, but this could mean that Huawei will be first to market. That might be the case, but we all know the next wave of foldable phones will be far more impressive.

Considering the Galaxy Fold is launching on April 26 in the USA and May 3 in Europe, perhaps Huawei is racing to release its first - something we may have to wait until MWC next week to discover.
