Open 13 Marseille: Stefanos Tsitsipas claims second ATP title

Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas moved one step closer to his third singles title with a 7-6 (1) 6-2 win over Belgium's David Goffin in the semi-finals of the Marseille Open on Saturday. "It's the biggest satisfaction and the biggest joy in tennis", Tsitsipas said, as quoted by the ATP Tour website.

The 20-year-old is excited at the prospect of claiming a second ATP Tour triumph, his first having come in Stockholm last year.

Top-seeded Greek tennis sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas won his second second career ATP 250 title in Marseille at the Open 13 tournament.

"I lost the spark (after the Australian Open) and I was frustrated because it felt like I couldn't find it again".

"There was a lot of stress this week because I knew I had to face some good opponents", said the 12th-ranked Tsitsipas.

"Winning titles is the thing that I am working for".

The 20-year-old Greek got broken to go down 5-6 in the first set, but completely turned the match around by immediately breaking back to force a tiebreak.

On Sunday, Tsitsipas edged a tight opening set with the first break of the match in game 12, before falling a break behind midway through the second set.

Tsitsipas was seeing the ball very well on Kukushkin's serve and returns, hitting some juicy forehand and backhand winners straight down the line.

"Titles mean a lot", said Tsitsipas, whose only previous title was on indoor hard courts past year in Stockholm.

After failing to convert his first break-point opportunity, Kukushkin claimed the opening break of the second set at 2-2 with his second cross-court forehand victor of the game. He then carried this momentum into the second set, going up 4-0 before closing it out 6-2 to reach his fourth career ATP final.
