King Richard: Will Smith to Star as Venus & Serena Williams’ Dad

The next life to be honoured with a sick biopic is Richard Williams, the papa of tennis champ Serena Williams, and Deadline reports that Will Smith is in talks to nab the lead role.

The Williams sisters are two forces of nature who, raised in Compton, one of the most risky neighborhoods in Los Angeles (United States), followed a master plan of their father, designed before they were born, to dominate women's tennis.

The film will highlight the life of Robert Williams a 77-year-old Louisiana, native who struggled to introduce his girls to the sport of tennis. It will show how the father overcame hardship and skepticism to help turn his daughters into tennis champions.

While they began their training on the run-down public courts in Compton, the family ultimately moved to West Palm Beach, Florida to attend Rick Macci's tennis academy.

Venus has claimed seven Grand Slam titles, while Serena has won 23. Both women have 14 Grand Slam doubles championships. Smith will produce with Tim White and Trevor White, with Allan Mandelbaum and Caleeb Pinkett as executive producers.

Serena and Venus' careers took off after Serena won the U.S. Open in 1999 and Venus won Wimbledon the next year.

Others pointed to Smith's upcoming role as the Genie in Aladdin, which has caused its own stir thanks to the star's blue tint for the film. He is now filming Bad Boys for Life alongside Martin Lawrence, and will next be seen in Disney's live-action Aladdin.

Smith's role in the Pursuit of Happiness was based on the story of Chris Gardner who was also of a darker complexion and we didn't say anything then so, why does Smith playing Richard Williams matter now?
