This weekend's results bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe's combined worldwide box office to $17.98 billion across 21 films. "We're going to have one of the biggest box-office years ever but looking at the first two months, you wouldn't know it". Personally, I was expecting the film to perform closer to Ant-Man dollar levels and come in under $100 million, but the film is actually closer to Iron Man sequel numbers and should finish around $160 million.

Starring Brie Larson as the first female Marvel character to front her own movie, the sci-fi fantasy co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck notched the biggest debut of 2019 and an all-time record for March.

"Captain Marvel" now has the 18th biggest domestic opening weekend of all time.

That's the third-largest March opening-weekend in movie history. Captain Marvel may/may not answer what takes place post Infinity War, but it will be pleasing for fans until Endgame hits the theaters. The Gal Gadot-led DC Comics story opened in June 2017 with US$103 million, considerably less than Captain Marvel. That blew past expectations: Analysts had forecast that the film would make about $130 million in North America.

The superhero film is resonating with audiences and critics alike.

The film garnered an "A" CinemaScore from audiences and a 79% score on review site Rotten Tomatoes. The cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law. The overall box office collection of the Marvel movie is now Rs 27.11 crore.

"How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" comes in second with $14.7 million, while "A Madea Family Funeral" is third with $12 million. This tracks just below the original film in the trilogy, which boasted a three weekend $133.4 million haul.

Another cosmic adventure, this time in documentary form, also made impressive moves this weekend.

Set in the 1990s, before Nick Fury had an eye patch and the Avengers Initiative was even a concept, a being known as Vers, played by Brie Larson, from the planet Kree landed on planet Earth after a failed battle against a species known as Skrulls.
