Ryan Tannehill Traded To The Tennessee Titans

Tannehill, in all likelihood, was going to be released by the Dolphins this offseason, pending what they could figure out in the quarterback market.

The team traded Ryan Tannehill to the Tennessee Titans on Friday in a deal involving draft picks.

The Dolphins will receive a fourth round pick in 2020 and a seventh rounder in 2019 while the Titans will also acquire a 2019 sixth rounder along with Tannehill.

Tannehill will back up Marcus Mariota in Tennessee, and given recent history, can reasonably expect to play.

Tannehill's agents, who initially announced the trade on social media, said the veteran QB had signed a restructured one-year contract with Tennessee. The Dolphins haven't really been linked to many quarterbacks in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft, but that's largely a result of where they're picking.

He was the first quarterback taken in the top round since Dan Marino.

Tannehill's time in Miami was coming to a close with a new regime in place.

Tannehill missed all of 2017 and missed five games in 2019 due to a shoulder issue. And his departure doesn't come as a big surprise when considering reports surfaced that the team was expected to go a different direction at the quarterback position under head coach Brian Flores.

Tannehill had 16 300-yard passing games for the Dolphins, topped by his 431-yard performance in a 24-21 overtime loss against Arizona during his rookie season.

Tannehill's skill set should fit well behind Mariota as both players rely on accuracy and movement to succeed.
