Konami Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Retro Collections Coming to PS4

After blowing up its relationship with Hideo Kojima, along with the entire Metal Gear franchise, Konami seemed to exit the major video game scene aside from yearly soccer releases shown off in sad E3 booths. Now, those hits - and more - are being bundled together in a new Anniversary Collection series for modern consoles.

Personally, I can't wait to get my retro on in the first release in less than a month's time.

As part of celebrations of their 50th anniversary, Konami will be rolling out three compilations of their classic titles into the summer. It's due for release on 18th April, priced $19.99.

The Castlevania Collection, meanwhile, launches in "early summer 2019" and consists of Castlevania, Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and Super Castlevania IV.

After that the Contra Collection will be making it's debut, which will also feature eight of the Contra games. Much like Castlevania, the next four games included are likely to be more classic titles from the series from the late 90s - which might disappoint fans of Contra's PS2 outings. It'll feature eight games including Contra, Super Contra, Super C and Contra III: The Alien Wars.

Konami also says the Arcade Classics collection will come with an eBook "packed with new information about the titles, including interviews with the development staff, behind-the-scenes insights, and sketches and design documents never before revealed to the public". However, Konami has only revealed four games for each collection so far, leaving the other four in each as a mystery.
