No. 5 Badgers will play No. 12 OR in NCAA tournament

The Badgers (23-10) accomplished a major mission by getting back to the NCAA tournament after a one-year absence. OR now starts four forwards - all of whom are 6-foot-9 or taller - around junior guard Payton Pritchard.

The Ducks and Wisconsin have an interesting NCAA Tournament history.

Since the season-ending injury of Bol Bol, the Oregon Ducks have gone through a bit of a rebrand and are finding themselves as a team. Wisconsin may be the best defensive team they have faced to this point, but OR just dispatched of a very good Washington squad in the Pac-12 championship that also happens to boast a tough defense (No. 20 nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency according to KenPom).

Following the selections of the NCAA and NIT fields, the Green Bay Phoenix learned there would be a tomorrow for their season.

The Badgers went 5-1 against teams seeded in the bottom half of the 68-team field. The four-team pod in the Eugene Regional includes the (2) Ducks, (15) Portland State, (10) in, and (7) Texas. Just about every year we see a 12 seed knock off a 5 seed in the tournament, hopefully, Wisconsin doesn't let that happen to them. No. 5 seed Wisconsin (23-10) meets 12th-seeded OR (23-12) on Friday in San Jose, with the Ducks having just won four games in as many days for the Pac-12 tournament title. Along the way, they beat the first, second and third seeds in the conference on consecutive days, culminating in a 20-point victory over the top-seeded Washington Huskies. The last time OR was sent to San Jose for the NCAA Tournament was 2013. The Badgers eliminated the Ducks in the round of 32 in back-to-back seasons en route to Final Four appearances in 2014 and '15.

OR received the two seed out of the Portland Region after posting a 29-4 record this season. Freshman Bol Bol also went down with a season-ending foot injury, leaving OR without one of its best players.

The Huskies had one fewer game after clinching a first-round bye, beating USC and Colorado by five points each. Whether from outside where they've been hot and cold all season long, or at the free throw line where they are one of the worst shooting teams in the country, this will most likely play a huge factor in deciding games. Wisconsin and OR recently met in back-to-back NCAA tourneys in 2014 and 2015, with the Badgers taking both games. On the season he has averaged 12.7 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.7 rebounds. White, freshman Louis King and junior Payton Pritchard all average double-digits in points.

"I am happy about that", Altman said. Nothing's come easy on offense since the calendar flipped to 2019, and one more drought could end their season. "And then to lose in overtime like this and really playing at a high level, I think that shows we're playing very well at the right time of the year". "We put together a great non-conference schedule, did some stuff that a lot of people didn't do". The Oregon Women's Basketball team will host Portland State at Matthew Knight Arena on Friday to open the NCAA Tournament. Minnesota coach Richard Pitino was an assistant at Louisville, under his father, Rick. The victor will play No. 1 seed North Carolina or No. 16 seed Iona.

Pitino was an assistant at Louisville from 2007 to 2009, and returned for another season, 2011-12, before becoming a head coach for the first time in 2012 at Florida International. Rick has since been supporting his son, often coming to Minnesota games.

Also from the Pac-12, Washington got a No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 Utah State on Friday at Columbus, Ohio.

The Ducks have caught fire and are riding on a unsafe eight-game winning streak.

The two best point guards in the country square off as Murray State's Ja Morant matches up with fellow All-American Markus Howard for Marquette. On the other hand, what may be their demise is shooting.
