Huawei set to announce new flagship smartphones

Huawei has just announced its new P30 and P30 Pro flagship smartphones, and one of the biggest things Huawei focused on was smartphone quality.

The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro will be released in Black, and four new gradient finishes - Amber Sunrise, Aurora, Breathing Crystal, and Pearl White.

We'll test Huawei's marketing claims when the phone comes in for review. To keep the P30 Pro thin, the periscope lens sits behind a prism that rotates images by 90 degrees.

The third and most remarkable lens is actually an 8MP, 125mm periscope zoom with OIS. Instead, Huawei uses an acoustic display technology that vibrates the top of the panel to produce sound.

The back of the P30 Pro features a quad-camera setup with a 20MP 16mm f/2.2 ultra-wide camera, a 40MP 27mm f/1.6 OIS main camera, an 8MP 125mm f/3.4 OIS telephoto camera, and a time-of-flight (TOF) camera for depth sensing.

Finally, the new Chinese smartphone also comes with a 20-megapixel wide-angle sensor that boasts a field of view over 120-degrees and a time-of-flight (TOF) module.

There is no word on the India availability or price in India of the two new Huawei phones, though the smartphones have already been listed on Amazon India.

In particular, the firm was keen to discuss the fact it has reconstructed the RGB model offered by the device, a fundamental system used to display colours in photos.

AI has always been a key proponent of Huawei's camera capability.

Huawei says that the super wide angle lens is now wider than that found on the Mate 20 Pro and features improved rectilinear correction, so that should see better results - again we'll need to see how it fares when we've had a chance to use it properly.

For comparison purposes, the P20 Pro had an ISO of 102,400.

The P30 Pro comes packed with AI and HDR+ technology, using which you can capture "Super Portrait Mode" photos with enormous details - down to the strands of hair on the subject's face.

"Up front, the smartphone features a 6.47" curved OLED display that pushes a Full HD+ resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. While often it takes a while to steady and focus - you'll ruin photos by moving the phone too quickly after snapping - numerous pictures we take, both inside the briefing room and along Amsterdam's canals, are of a quality beyond which we usually manage. What's more, the P30 doesn't feature IP68 water resistance either.

Just like their predecessors, the P30 series have AIS which allows you to take professional long exposure photos without a tripod.

That means the new hardware only has a single speaker on its bottom. As far as the specifications are concerned, Huawei P30 and the Huawei P30 Pro will be powered by the Kirin 980 SoC and will run Android Pie with an EMUI 9.1 custom skin on top.
