Windows 10 May 2019 Update Heads to the Release Preview Ring

After completing the steps, when the Windows 10 May 2019 Update is considered complete, and it becomes available in the Release Preview ring, your computer will get it automatically through Windows Update.

If you're in the Fast ring, recommended to switch to the Release Preview ring as in the coming weeks, Microsoft will start releasing early previews for the 20H1 update coming in 2020.

If you are an Insider in the Slow or Release ring, you can download the May 2019 Update by going into Windows Update and checking for new updates.

All Windows 10 versions will get cumulative updates tomorrow, albeit it's worth knowing that for consumers only the Fall Creators Update and newer are supported.

The program has been created to offer pre-releases of Windows 10 using three levels of readiness (Fast, Slow, and Release Preview), which developers and enthusiasts can use to test and offer feedback for upcoming features. That's why the term "stable" has to be taken with a grain of salt: Microsoft thinks the May 2019 Update is feature complete and bug-free-but it also thought so with the October 2018 Update, and we all remember what happened then. Its rollout would kick off next month, and the update is now available for Windows insiders.

If you are now not an Insider and would like to test the May 2019 Update before it is publicly released, you first need to join the program.

Click on Windows Insider Program.

You will now be at the Windows Insider settings screen.

You will now be prompted to link a Microsoft account with the program.

Select your Microsoft account from the list (or use a different account). You'll need to pick a ring to join. "The May 2019 Update will remain in the Release Preview ring for an increased amount of time in order give us additional time and signals to detect any issues before broader deployment".

After you select the ring, Microsoft will ask you confirm the Windows Insider Program agreement. On the other hand, to prevent unwanted restarts due to updates, users will now have the option to let Windows Update adjust intelligently, with active hours based on their usage patterns. Additionally, Microsoft will aggressively internally deploy the May 2019 Update during the Release Preview period and encourage employees to do the same on their personal devices.
