As the storms moved through, several tornado warnings were issued by the National Weather Service between 11PM Saturday night and 3:30 Sunday morning.

Damaging winds, tornadoes, hail and heavy rain will all be possible this go-around, although where and how strong are still uncertain this far out. The children were pronounced dead at the scene.

Davis said the strong winds and downed trees that were reported in several counties were likely caused by a very strong squall line, a narrow band of thunderstorms.

"The severe weather threat should be quickly winding down by late morning", the National Weather Service said. Franklin is about 125 miles south of Dallas.

Roy Ratliff, 95, died after a tree crashed onto his trailer in northeastern Mississippi, Monroe County Road Manager Sonny Clay said at a news conference, adding that a tornado had struck.

Police in Monroe County earlier described the destruction from the storm Saturday evening.

But there is concern on Monday that gusty winds could rise to 55 miles per hour, possibly leading to airport delays in big hubs from Boston to the Mid-Atlantic, she said.

In East Texas, the Angelina County Sheriff's Office said an 8-year-old and a 3-year-old died when strong winds toppled a tree onto the back of their family's vehicle in Lufkin while it was in motion.

The roof of a hotel in New Albany, Mississippi, was damaged, although the cause was unclear. Trees were reported down in each location but there were no immediate reports of damage, injuries or fatalities.
