Griezmann announces Atletico Madrid exit

The France global has been linked with a mega-money move away from Atletico Madrid for several years.

The move comes amid rumours of a new bid from Barcelona for Griezmann, who turned down the Blaugrana's advances last summer before going on to help France lift the World Cup in Russian Federation.

However, a little less than a year after committing his future to Diego Simeone's side, he's chose to leave the club.

The Catalans were in hot pursuit of Griezmann a year ago, but the France star opted to sign a new contract with Atletico through 2023, announcing his intention in a televised special called "La Decision".

The Catalan giants will then reimburse the former Real Sociedad man for stumping up the cash for his release clause.

Barcelona will pay the buyout clause in Griezmann's contract of 120m euros, BBC Sport understands.

Griezmann, 28, has been with Atletico for five years, during which time he has scored 133 goals and helped the team win the Europa League.

"It's been an incredible five years", Griezmann said in the video.

He added: "I have to leave, I want to see new places and face new challenges, it's what I need now". "I have you all in my heart".

"I wasn't there on a day to day basis and I didn't know the decision he was going to make". He called me. Barcelona is above everything and there are many players that want to come.
