Window washers rescued from wildly swinging lift

There was a terrifying situation in Oklahoma City on Wednesday as two window washers held on for dear life after their scaffold came loose on the side of Devon Tower.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department said on Twitter that the two were stranded outside the 50-floor Devon Tower.

Video from the scene showed the lift banging against the building and breaking windows.

The scaffold, which was dangling from a crane, banged against the sides of the 850-foot building that extended 20 feet above the roof as the men clutched the railing.

Multiple windows were broken as the lift swung through the air, sending shards of glass falling to the ground below.

He said firefighters had the washers "secured and out of the basket in pretty short time ..."

Paramedics checked the workers out, CNN affiliate KOCO reported, and they refused treatment. He said the cause of the accident is under investigation.

The company will also investigate the incident.
