An explosion on a pedestrian street in the southern French city of Lyon has injured 13 people.

The victims sustained leg injuries that weren't life-threatening, Amerouche told The Associated Press.

French President Emmanuel Macron characterized the blast as an attack shortly after it happened, telling an interviewer: "I'm late because there was an attack in Lyon".

The mayor and Macron sent their sympathies to the injured, some of whom were taken to the hospital and others just went home.
