Volkswagen, Ford reach outline agreement to share electric, autonomous tech

Ford Volkswagen share technologies.

Ford and Volkswagen have agreed to share autonomous and electric auto technologies with each other according to a report from Reuters published on Friday.

Back in January, the two auto makers announced plans to share technology and platforms, starting with new commercial vehicles like vans and medium-sized pickup trucks.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, Reuters is reporting the automakers have reached an "outline agreement" which will see Ford receive Volkswagen's MEB platform.

Volkswagen's Board of Directors is scheduled to discuss the deepening alliance and approve the new agreement at a meeting scheduled for July 11.

On the side of Ford, a spokeswoman said: "Our discussions with Volkswagen are continuing.

Discussions have been productive across a number of areas", Ford said in a statement. "We will share new information when we have better details".

Ever since Volkswagen and Ford announced that they will be working together on commercial vehicles, there were already rumors about them possible working on more projects together and we can finally learn what is next. The additional collaboration is expected to be around autonomous technology and electric vehicles.
