On Monday evening, Brentford announced the signing of Pontus Jansson from Leeds United, showing the defender looking slightly shellshocked whilst holding a half-eaten biro.

The Sweden worldwide also stated that he wanted to remain in England, despite interest from Toulouse, Celta Vigo, Fenerbahce and Mainz.

He's now in charge at Malmo, where Jansson has been training, and knows the footballer well.

"I have always liked to have a close relationship with my coach". As I had with Rolle Nilsson or Rikard Norling for example. That hasn't been as easy with Bielsa and one reason for that is the language.

"Leeds needed to sell to get a better balance in their accounts because of the financial fair play rules, and then they saw that they could make money from me". "He is special, believes in his idea to the max and I have learned a lot from him".

Brentford, who very recently signed the Spanish goalkeeper David Raya, seems to see in Jansson a key playerin defence.

Of course, it was known about in the days leading up to the move, but if someone had said a few months ago that Jansson would be leaving Leeds for Brentford, in a deal worth around £5m, they'd have been laughed away.

The Whites are determined to keep hold of one of their most integral players from the last campaign and have offered him new and improved terms however he has rejected the initial contract offer.

The defender was absolutely crucial to Leeds' promotion chances.

Villa have made no secret of their interest in the Leeds midfielder and this latest update may give them the opportunity to entice Phillips to Villa Park.
