Thus, considering it, Everton proposed an offer to Manchester United to hire the services of Chris Smalling for a season-long loan spell with the Toffees.

Crystal Palace reportedly wants a 100m pounds for the 24-year-old and that has put Everton off who have now turned their attentions to Arsenal star, Alex Iwobi.

McCarthy was initially offered as part exchange for Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha, but the London club rejected that offer, according to Mail Online, and pursued the Ireland worldwide separately.

The Toffees have strengthened other areas of the pitch, with the likes of Fabian Delph and Moise Kean adding quality to the club's ranks. Iwobi hasn't pushed for a move, but will leave the club if a deal between the two sides is agreed before the transfer deadline.

The offer is believed to have been an initial £25m fee, with a further £5m in performance-related add-ons.

The Gunners broke their record signing after landing Nicolas Pepe in a deal valued around £75 million.

Iwobi came through the ranks at Arsenal, having joined the academy back in 2004, and made his debut for the senior team in 2015.

According to Daily Mail report, the Premier League champions splashed out about £3.2m up front for the winger, who was repeatedly linked with Europe's top clubs this summer.
