Attorney general ‘appalled’ by Epstein death

The investigation into charges Jeffrey Epstein sexually abused dozens of underage girls will likely continue, as lawmakers and lawyers for some of his accusers say they will continue to seek justice despite the disgraced financier's death by suicide.

ABC News and the New York Post independently confirmed Epstein's death Saturday morning.

"The FBI is investigating the incident", the department said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating Epstein's time spent in work release under the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

The Metropolitan Correction Center, a federal facility in Manhattan that is often used to house suspects awaiting or during trial, is considered one of the most secure penal establishments in the US.

The attorney general said he has consulted with the inspector general who will be launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Epstein's death. WPTV's Contact 5 uncovered that Epstein was allowed to visit him home at least nine times while on work release at the Palm Beach County jail. The records contain graphic allegations against Epstein, as well as the transcript of a 2016 deposition of Epstein in which he repeatedly refused to answer questions to avoid incriminating himself.

Epstein had pleaded not guilty in the case, and a federal judge had recently denied his request to be released to home confinement.

Dershowitz has denied that he did anything more than act as Epstein's attorney.

GoLocal last week reported the ties between Epstein and the billionaire Leon Black, the billionaire Epstein friend who is financing the biggest newspaper merger deal of the Providence Journal's parent company GateHouseMedia and Gannett.

In them, Virginia Giuffre, now an adult, claims that she was forced to have sex with some well-known American political and business personalities.

In late July, Epstein was found injured in his jail cell with marks on his neck.

Giuffre said that she flew to the island with Epstein when she was 17 and that, while she was there, Epstein's associate Ghislaine Maxwell told her that she had picked Clinton up in a "black helicopter that Jeffrey bought her". They also say additional victims have come forward since the arrest.

"We have to live with the scars of his actions for the rest of our lives, while he will never face the consequences of the crimes he committed the pain and trauma he caused so many people", accuser Jennifer Araoz said in a statement.

Spokesperson Aja Davis said the coroner's office is still investigating the cause of death and would not yet confirm the cause.

Fernich also blasted the staff at the federal Manhattan Correctional Center, where Epstein was held.

The new charges renewed attentionon the plea deal, spurring outrage against it and leading to the resignation of Trump administration Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, who negotiated the plea agreement when he was the United States attorney in Miami.
