Washington must observe the 2015 nuclear deal and halt "economic terrorism" against Iran if it wants to hold talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Thursday.

"But the USA had failed, it can not make compliance with the nuclear deal contingent upon issues that are not included in the agreement", Zarif said.

US President Donald Trump previous year unilaterally pulled out of the accord that handed Iran relief from sanctions in return for curbs on its atomic programme.

Barbara Slavin, director of the Future of Iran Initiative at the Atlantic Council, said Macron was likely trying to buy time and keep Iran in the deal - sending a message as well that Trump could be gone after elections next year.

While some countries such as Australia and the U.K. have announced they will take part in the coalition, Japan has remained ambiguous on the matter, caught between its alliance with the United States and traditionally friendly ties with Iran.

"It won't be possible for us to engage with the U.S. unless they stop imposing a war, engaging in economic terrorism".

"It's very important that these countries have important visibility into the different ways the Iranian regime uses to deceive the worldwide community in connection with the shipment of oil", she said, referring to her talks in Singapore and Malaysia.

Iran and the US have been locked in a cyber conflict for a while now, but both sides are careful not to go over the top when the conflict would be classified as a war, the New York Times source said. In the two earlier "steps", announced on May 8 and July 7, Iran defied key constraints on its nuclear program by augmenting its uranium stockpile to above 300 kilograms and upgrading enrichment past the 3.67% limit.

Iran said its seizure of a United Kingdom -flagged oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was a "legal measure" because it failed to respond to distress calls and turned off its transponder after hitting a fishing boat a day after the USA claimed its USS Boxer took out an Iranian drone.

Iran has played down the possibility of a summit, with Rouhani saying the United States must first lift all sanctions - which have badly hurt an economy that had soared following the nuclear agreement. We are still sitting around the table with five other countries and the EU. The think tank's president, Cliff May, told me that the FDD is taking extra precautions.

"He (Trump) doesn't like (former President Barack) Obama's legacy, he just wants to withdraw from the deal because of personal reasons, not because of some substantial reasons", he said.

There are at least 100,000 Iranian expatriates in Malaysia, according to 2013 figure from the Middle East Institute.

During his visit, Zarif also met with Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and held talks with Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

DONALD TRUMP launched a scathing threat to Iran as he joined French President Emmanuel Macron in a joint conference at the end of the G7 Summit in France.

Asked about the prospects of a deal with Tehran, Mr Trump said: "Iran can be a great nation but they can't have nuclear weapons".
