Colts reportedly give Jacoby Brissett a two-year extension worth $30 million

A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed the team and Hoyer agreed Monday morning to a three-year, $12 million contract to serve as Jacoby Brissett's backup.

In a corresponding move, the team has waived safety Rolan Milligan. Because Hoyer signed with the Colts, New England will receive a credit on its 2020 cap to offset the guarantees that for now have converted into dead money. The Patriots released Hoyer as a part of the 53-man roster cuts on Saturday.

For his career, Hoyer has completed 838 passes for 9,902 yards with 48 touchdown and 30 interceptions. "He has a tremendous amount of experience and is a proven leader". The Colts acquired Brissett from the Patriots on September 2, 2017, when Luck was struggling because of a shoulder injury.

In the wake of Andrew Luck's shock retirement, the Colts only had Brissett, Chad Kelly, and Phillip Walker on the roster. He's played in 17 games over three seasons, including starting in 15 for the Colts in 2017.

Several NFL teams expressed interest in Hoyer, though the Indianapolis Colts appeared to be the frontrunner, bringing the QB in for a visit this weekend.

Indianapolis is set to open the 2019 regular season on Sunday against the Chargers. "All the scenarios that we're talking about behind closed doors, they're obviously all scenarios that we think put us in a winning position Week 1".
