Officers reported three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others died at an area hospital after they were flown there with critical injuries.

A 14-year-old has confessed to killing all five members of his family in an Alabama home, according to authorities.

The sheriff said that the victims were the father, step-mother, and siblings of the shooter.

The teen is helping investigators find the 9mm handgun he said he used and then left nearby, the sheriff's office said.

Around 3 a.m., the sheriff's office said the two injured victims had died. Authorities didn't describe any possible motive.

"The 14-year old caller was interviewed and confessed to shooting all five members of his family in the residence", it said on Twitter.

Elkmont is a small town northwest of Huntsville, near the Alabama-Tennessee.

Officials at Elkmont High School asked for prayers for the school and community. Just before 6 a.m., the school posted to Facebook stating extra counselors would be at the school Tuesday.
