Cowboys agree to six-year, $90 million extension with Ezekiel Elliott

The 41-day stalemate between Dallas and the two-time National Football League rushing champion came with the Cowboys holding high expectations coming off their first playoff win with Elliott and quarterback Dak Prescott. The Cowboys had more than $86 million in projected salary cap space heading into the next offseason, money that presumably will be used to retain quarterback Dak Prescott long-term as well as wide receiver Amari Cooper, who is in the final year of a contract that will pay him $13.9 million this season. Gurley signed a four-year, $57.5 million contract with $45 million guaranteed last summer. Jones said. "It would be great if Zeke would be in that group".

Elliott is expected at practice on Wednesday, but head coach Jason Garrett might not know until late in the week what role Elliott will play in Sunday's opener against the New York Giants.

The contract goes on top of the one that he's already playing under and will result in a total of $103 Million over eight years. If not, rookie Tony Pollard will take his spot.

The deal adds on to Elliott's current rookie contract, which runs through 2020. The owner strongly supported Elliott during a court fight over the suspension. Elliott spent nearly the entire holdout in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. But by Saturday, there were reports that Elliott and Dallas were working toward completing his extension over the weekend.

In 2016, Elliot was the No. 4 overall pick out of Ohio State. I'm not sure this necessarily a good move, but it is still an upgrade over who they had at right tackle last season. The Cowboys then lost to the Los Angeles Rams, falling to 0-6 in the divisional round since finishing the 1995 season with a Super Bowl win over Pittsburgh.

Elliott bolted for Mexico in July as the Cowboys boarded a team charter for Oxnard, Calif., site of their summertime training camp.
