Xiaomi introduces 30W wireless charging, set for Mi 9 Pro 5G

The first smartphone with Mi Charge Turbo will be the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G. While the company hasn't detailed the new technology yet, it says Mi Charge Turbo will allow a 4,000mAh battery to be charged from flat to 50% in just 25 minutes, and up to 100% in 70 minutes. This would put it on par with wired charging solutions seen on the likes of the Huawei P30 Pro, and just under the Galaxy Note 10 Plus's 45W wired charging (although these brands are undoubtedly investigating faster solutions too). This should be faster than most 27W and 20W wired fast charging solutions in the market, claims Xiaomi. Given that the most powerful wireless chargers now are at 20W, the 30W Mi Charge Turbo tech that can be used with the phone, and its high efficiency, certainly got us salivating already.

The Weibo post also suggests that with the help of reverse wireless charging, Mi 9 Pro 5G will also be able to charge an iPhone XS (Review) up to 20 percent in 30 minutes. When it is done charging, the second device will automatically start charging. The first is a 30W Mi Charge Turbo based charger that is also Qi-compatible. And to retain the full-screen design from the previous Mi Mix generations, the newest addition to the family will resort to the pop-up camera mechanism for its front shooter.

The manufacturer's push for wireless charging doesn't stop here though, as it's announced the formation of a wireless charging consortium with several other Chinese companies.
