Kim Kardashian: what you need to know about Lupus

"You know, you really do get in your head and think about the worst possible things that can happen", said Kim. Here's what's known so far.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has lupus.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that occurs when someone's immune system attacks their tissues and organs, causing inflammation and affecting different body systems. About five million people have lupus, according to the Lupus Foundation of America. While common, lupus is hard to diagnose because numerous symptoms - joint pain, fever, fatigue, rashes - are also seen in other health problems, and the symptoms differ from person to person.

Rheumatoid arthritis is also an autoimmune disease and has similar symptoms like fatigue or fever, but must include pain and stiffness in multiple joints. In the U.S. alone, about 1.5 million people have rheumatoid arthritis, per the Arthritis Foundation.

She added that there is now no single, gold-standard test for Lupus. "It was what I needed to do for my overall health". Blood tests, urine tests, and biopsies can help your doctor diagnose lupus, per the Lupus Foundation of America; while blood tests, imaging tests, and physical examinations can help doctors diagnose rheumatoid arthritis, per the Arthritis Foundation.

However, he explained that testing positive doesn't always mean you definitely have the disease. Just days after the episode aired aired, Kim made on appearance on the "Today" show and talked about her treatment following the upsetting diagnosis. Basically, they work to protect our bodies from foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses.

Her physician, Dr. Daniel Wallace, confirmed to her, "Your antibodies are positive for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis".

Fingers crossed she Kourtney gets the results she wants! "We're here in NY, it's Fashion Week and I have a test coming up, so I have to stay in and I have to study", she said. Again, that's entirely specific to her doctors and her condition.

As the Food God blogger showed Kim his phone charging case, she struggled to lift the device.

Kardashian West speculated that based on the symptoms she believed she may have rheumatoid arthritis but chose to seek out a professional opinion.
