Apple CEO Tim Cook kicked off the event with "some truly big announcements". The new Apple Watch will start at $399. The updated models include the iPhone 11, with a more affordable price tag, and the higher-end iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. There's also a new 12-megapixel front-facing camera that will be able to capture wide-frame video in 4k, as well as slow-mo video. The battery in the iPhone 11 will have one hour more than the iPhone 10 XR.

The front-facing camera has also seen some improvement and Apple added slo-motion capability, which they said is ideal for taking "slo-fies".

The new generation of Apple Watch, the Series 5, was also unveiled. The screens have been optimized for "times when you can't raise your wrist or tap the display", Stan Ng announced. Here's everything you need to know about Apple's special event.

The company's new models are so similar to last year's lineup they may be upstaged by Apple TV Plus, the company's upcoming video service, which is rolling out on November 1 at $8.99 per month in New Zealand.

While Apple TV+ will boast fewer originals than other streaming services, its price point (and launch date) make it competitive with the likes of Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon. The tab will feature new games added every month, personalized recommendations, game guides and more. Sri Santhanam, VP of silicon engineering at Apple, suggests that "iPhone 11 Pro is the best machine learning platform in any smartphone".

IPhone shipments are down 25% so far this year, according to the research firm IDC, putting more pressure on Apple to generate revenue from services such as music streaming, product repairs, revenue sharing from apps and ad commissions from making Google the default search engine.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Product Marketing, speaks in front of an iPad at an Apple event at their headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., Sept. 10, 2019. The iPhone 11 will be available in six new colors, including purple, white, yellow, green, and red, and features a 6.1-inch liquid retina display.

Joswiak demonstrated new ways to use photo and video editing as well as Apple pencil capabilities.
