National Football League fines Ben Roethlisberger $5,000 for wearing Apple Watch on Steelers' sideline

The NFL has fined Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethslierbger $5,000 for wearing his Apple Watch on the sideline of last week's game against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter. National Football League rules prohibit players and coaches from wearing electronic devices that can transmit messages, but Roethlisberger is "livid" that he was fined and is planning to appeal. His issue is that he never received any advanced warning that he could be in violation, only a fine letter for wearing the device - which he didn't even realize he had on, according to sources. But NFL rules ban all electric devices that transmit messaging.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger played zero minutes Monday night and still got fined by the NFL.

Roethlisberger is on injured-reserve recovering from season-ending elbow surgery. Since he isn't able to dress himself, his wife dressed him before the game and strapped the watch to his left wrist.

Roethlisberger was seen shaking his throwing arm at various points in the first half of the team's home opener and even exited to the locker room before returning to the sideline.
