Variety earlier Friday reported news of Forster's death and said he died in Los Angeles of brain cancer. "A lovely man and a consummate actor".

"I never forgot how kind and generous he was to a young kid just starting out in Hollywood", Cranston wrote.

"I've done a lot of genre pictures in my career.I've always liked them", Forster told the Bleecker Street blog upon the release of 2018's indie drama What They Had. His Oscar-nominated performance led to a career resurgence, along with more lucrative film roles that included Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, David Lynch's Mulholland Drive (shown above), and Gus Van Zandt's shot-for-shot remake of Psycho.

His "Jackie Brown" co-star Samuel L. Jackson tweeted that Forster was "truly a class act/Actor!"

Forster went on to appear in more than 100 films and several television series.

His Oscar nomination was for his work in Jackie Brown. Dally Has a Lover, opposite Arlene Francis. After working in theater, he made the move to Los Angeles and nabbed parts in films like Reflections in a Golden Eye, Medium Cool, and Justine.

Forster first got into acting in college at the University of Rochester.

"I was a senior". They were doing auditions. "I said, 'That's how I'm gonna meet the girl!'" he once said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He'll also appear later this year in the Steven Spielberg-produced Apple+ series "Amazing Stories".

Forster is survived by his four children, four grandchildren and Grayson, his partner of 16 years.

Details of a memorial service have not yet been announced.
