Maradona Reveals Newell's Dream After Watching Gimnasia Win Upon A Throne

Diego Maradona revealed his desire to return to Newell's Old Boys as coach after receiving a hero's welcome from his former team prior to Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata's stunning rout.

However, Maradona and his throne arguably stole the thunder, right after the coach, who briefly played for Newell's Old Boys (1993-1994), made a speech to fans before the game, attracting applause.

The home team's hospitality clearly backfired as the 59-year-old's Gimnasia side emerged with a shock 4-0 win from their clash at the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa.

Those who were not at the game were able to watch the coach through a special camera named "Diego Cam" on TNT Sports.

After the game, World Cup victor and former Argentina boss Maradona told reporters: "I have a broken heart because I know I'm coming back here".

Gimnasia, the team Maradona has been in charge of since September, went into the game at the foot of the Argentine top division, but claimed the biggest win of Maradona's tenure, winning the fixture by four clear goals and perhaps making some people within the club regret the extent of their welcome.

Newell's, whom Maradona represented as a player in 1993 and 1994, paid the 1986 World Cup victor a moving 30-minute tribute before the match.

With Maradona returning to Newell's (on the eve of his birthday no less), the club did the most Maradona thing you have ever seen and gave the former superstar his own throne from which to watch/coach the game.

"This is fantastic, I didn't expect it", Maradona said of the special celebration.

Maradona added: "Today we had no mistakes and my players covered all places for good Newell's players and that's why we won. This match was played wonderfully well".

Victory against Newell's elevated Gimnasia off the bottom of the Superliga table, as they jumped ahead of Godoy Cruz.
