Seahawks Claim Former Patriots WR Josh Gordon Off Waivers

Gordon had been released off injured reserve by the New England Patriots on Thursday.

The bench boss added that Gordon won't play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the team will "see what he looks like" in Week 10 when the Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers meet up on Monday Night Football. Thus, making Gordon an expendable piece of the Patriots' offense for the rest of the season.

When asked why the team cut ties with the former All-Pro, Pats head coach Bill Belichick offered little answer.

Since the Patriots released Gordon after the National Football League trade deadline on Tuesday, he was subject to waivers instead of becoming a free agent, where priority is given to the teams with the worst records and the teams with the best records are, in theory, least likely to get players.

"I don't know physically how he's doing right now other than that he's OK, is what we've heard", Carroll said. "I'm looking to Baltimore at this point". And, notably, his aDOT with New England a year ago was 13.5.

The Patriots acquired Gordon on September 17, 2018 in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, and caught 40 passes for 720 yards and three touchdowns. He's yet to play a full 16-game campaign since his rookie season due to suspensions and mental health-related issues.

He has played in 58 regular-season games with 55 starts and totaled 240 receptions for 4,113 yards and 20 touchdowns.
