One viewer said: "On a not so fun note, His Dark Materials premiere was kinda bad".

Keen shared a video on her official Instagram account showing Lyra Belacqua in action.

The networks have just released the show's opening sequence and it looks like a visual masterpiece while also giving us Game of Thrones vibes.

After an unsuccessful film adaptation in 2007, Philip Pullman's beloved series of books, His Dark Materials is back in a new television series produced by HBO and the BBC.

"Can't wait for episode two".

While they haven't revealed the actual budget, most of it has gone into the special effects.

"Running home to catch the HIS DARK MATERIALS ep.1 tonight be like:", Keen wrote. In last night's episode, orphan Lyra Belacqua's long-absent uncle returns from the North.

Lyra's search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and turns into a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. After series one, which covers the first installment of Northern Lights, the story continues in The Subtle Knife where Lyra is joined on her journey by Will, a boy who possesses a knife that can cut windows between worlds.

Also in the cast are Golden Globe victor Ruth Wilson ("The Affair") as Mrs. Coulter, Tony victor Lin-Manuel Miranda ("Hamilton") as Lee Scoresby, James McAvoy ("Atonement") as Lord Asriel, Clarke Peters ("The Wire") as the Master of Jordan College, James Cosmo as Farder Coram and Anne-Marie Duff as Ma Costa. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets a determined and courageous boy called Will.

The His Dark Materials trilogy sold more than 17.5 million copies and was translated into 40 languages.

Despite the movie's poor reviews, the series' executive producer Jane Tranter knew she had an advantage bringing the complex story to TV.

Written by Jack Thorne, His Dark Materialshas been lavished with praise in the British press for dramatizing the world Pullman created with his trilogy books, which began withNorthern Lightsin 1995.
