Microsoft is shutting down Cortana app for iOS, Android

The company has revealed that the Cortana app will stop working after January 31st, 2020 for people in Australia, Canada and the UK.

A new Microsoft support article confirms that Microsoft will retire Cortana support on iOS and Android, and also in the Microsoft Launcher application. Along with the standalone app, the Cortana integration from Microsoft Launcher will also disappear next year in the affected markets.

Microsoft has quietly confirmed the rumors that it is planning to discontinue its Cortana digital assistant for some users. Surprisingly, it seems like the app will stay put in the United States region for some reason.

Reports started to appear in early 2019 that Microsoft planned to change how Cortana was used fundamentally.

Microsoft is announcing the death of Cortana's mobile apps today.

Cortana is Microsoft's digital assistant, its alternative to Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple's Siri.

After that date, any reminders or lists users now have on the Cortana app can be accessed through Microsoft's free To Do app, which is automatically synced.

"To make your personal digital assistant as helpful as possible, we're integrating Cortana into your Microsoft 365 productivity apps", Microsoft's note reads. Since the launch, Microsoft has integrated the Cortana digital assistant with a slew of its applications and services including Skype and Outlook.

Microsoft's flawed reasoning betrays the embarrassing reason Cortana is on its deathbed: it sucks, and no one is interested.

After January 31st, 2020, the Cortana mobile app on your phone will no longer be supported and there will be an updated version of Microsoft Launcher with Cortana removed. This means that the Cortana users in the U.S. can continue to use the application.
