OnePlus says hit by data breach user names addresses leaked

"We want to update you that we have discovered that some of our users' order information was accessed by an unauthorised party". All affected customers would receive an email by Friday, OnePlus said.

OnePlus says that it has already reached out to its customers that have been affected by this security incident, but it isn't disclosing the total number involved. The company has also said that the impacted users have also been informed by email about the incident.

OnePlus is yet to disclose the number of customers that have been affected by this breach.

According to OnePlus, there was a vulnerability on its online store that allowed criminals to gain access to this sensitive information. Such information has a lot of value on the Dark Web, where buyers use the same to launch phishing attacks and SPAM campaigns. Earlier this year, email addresses were leaked from its "Shot on OnePlus" promotion, and the company previously suffered a hack regarding credit card payment information that went undisclosed for two months, just after the company's analytics were discovered to include some excess identifying information. OnePlus also mentioned that customers whose data was exposed, are being informed through emails. "We've inspected our website thoroughly to ensure that there are no similar security flaws", says the documentation at OnePlus. The exposed information included details like customer names, contact numbers, emails, and shipping addresses, but not passwords or financial details.

It should be noted that this is the second security breach in the smartphone vendor's history.

OnePlus customers who haven't yet received an email notifying them of the data breach were told by the Chinese phone maker in a security incident notification published on the company's forum that their data is safe.

As an attempt to recover from the incident, the brand assured people that they were upgrading the security programs and made a partnership with world-renowned security. Concerned parties can head over to OnePlus Support and drop down to the bottom of the page where it says "Contact Us" to get in contact with OnePlus.
