USA actress and TV host Ellen DeGeneres poses in the press room with the Carol Burnett award during the 77th annual Golden Globe Awards on 5 January 2020, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The honor, which recognizes achievement in television, was first awarded to Burnett in 2019. And I lost that sitcom. And I still am.

Ellen acknowledged the difference she had made when she accepted the award, which she hilariously dedicated to her make-believe "husband", Mark, and her equally make-believe children while wife Portia De Rossi smiled adoringly in the crowd.

"I think that I'm really happy for every single thing that happened in my life", she told reporters after her acceptance speech. And If I hadn't seen her on TV, I would have thought, 'I could never be on TV. "So thank you, Ellen, for giving me a shot at a good life".

DeGeneres went on to make mention of her hit sitcom, which ended after she came out publicly in 1997.

The variety show star said that DeGeneres has given her both physical and spiritual gifts - like a variety of clothing after McKinnon did impressions of her. The show was canceled in May 1998 after a successful five seasons and it seemed that Ellen's career was over.

She continued: "It's sort of like doing 23 and Me and discovering that you have alien DNA". She then jokingly thanked her fake kids and told them to go to bed. "In addition to her television success, she's an advocate and philanthropist, lending her voice to those who don't have one, and spreading kindness and joy through the power of her platform".

The comedian then reflected on Burnett's influence on her own life. Lucille Ball, Mary Tyler Moore, Marlo Thomas, Dick Van Dyke, Bob Newhart. "There's no greater feeling than when someone tells me that I've made their day better with my show". "I have helped them through a hard time". "I look up to - not just people that are older than me but people that are starting out now and paving the way", DeGeneres said. They make people laugh or be kind or help someone that's less fortunate than themselves.
