Bench-Clearing Brawl Erupts at End of Kansas-Kansas State Basketball Game

Kansas forward Silvio De Sousa has been suspended from the team indefinitely for his role in Tuesday night's fight between the Kansas and Kansas State men's basketball programs. The suspension is indefinite "pending the final outcome of the review by KU and the Big 12", he announced.

That was one ESPN announcer's reaction to the end of the NCAA basketball game Tuesday between the University of Kansas' Jayhawks and Kansas State's Wildcats.

The melee began when De Sousa blocked DaJuan Gordon's shot in the final seconds of an 81-60 victory and then stood over Gordon.

Players who left the bench were ejected from the game.

"Without knowing exactly everything that went down, it was obvious to me that we played a role in what transpired and there will be penalties for that", Jayhawks coach Bill Self said after the game, per The Associated Press.

Kansas' Silvio De Souda, however, sprinted behind Gordon and came up with a massive block as he attempted the layup, sending Gordon down into the baseline. Several punches were thrown in the incident, and De Sousa even picked up a chair at one point.

Although it was initially a bit hard to tell who was doing what in this chaotic scene, things definitely unfolded quickly - especially for Kansas center Silvio De Sousa and several others.

"The conduct of a few of our student-athletes was simply unacceptable and not reflective of who we are", said KU director of athletics Jeff Long.

Braun answered with another 3 during another big run that allowed the Jayhawks to put the game away.

Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber called the brawl "disappointing", KCTV reported.
