Trump Heard On Tape Telling Parnas, Fruman To 'Get Rid Of' Yovanovitch

"Bush, he gets us into the war, he gets us into the Middle East, that was a beauty", Trump says. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, decried the double standard applied to President Donald Trump's family and the one applied to the family of Democratic presidential candidate former Vice President Joe Biden.

"Get rid of her!" Take her out. OK?

House impeachment managers on Thursday zeroed in on President Trump's mention of a debunked theory on his call with Ukraine, alleging during the second day of their opening arguments that the president stood to benefit in his reelection campaign from the idea that Kyiv interfered in the 2016 election. The recording appears to contradict the president's statements that he did not know Parnas, a key figure in the investigation.

During the conversation, several of the participants can be heard laughing with the president.

As Senate Republicans zeroed in on the Bidens, a focus on both father and son is nothing new when it comes to Trump's defense. The benign explanation is that he was asking the ambassador to be fired when he told an aide to "get rid of her" and "take her out".

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham echoed her comment and defended Trump's move to remove Yovanovitch. "She's basically walking around telling everybody 'Wait, he's gonna get impeached, just wait, '" Parnas said.

Trump has repeatedly denied knowing Parnas, a Soviet-born American, who appears to speak to Trump directly in the recording, ABC News reported. It was not until a year later that Yovanovitch was recalled from her position - in April 2019. President Trump has distanced himself from Parnas, and the president's supporters have questioned his credibility and motives.

The following month, Yovanovitch was removed from her post at Giuliani's urging.

"Get rid of her!"

The recording provides further evidence of the long-running effort to push out Yovanovitch, whose ouster was sought by Yuri Lutsenko, formerly Ukraine's top prosecutor.

Sources report that the recording was made on April 30, 2018, during a dinner at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC. In the video, then-Representative Graham can be seen calling for the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton.

Also present was Fruman's business partner, Lev Parnas. He said he brought Parnas back to his "cloud" and Parnas found the audio.

A copy of the recording is in the custody of federal prosecutors in NY, according to ABC. "We have hoped that, to the extent this recording still existed, it would be released to Congress for use in the impeachment trial". "You can only trust this president to do what's right for Donald Trump".

"He even had a breakdown and screamed, 'fire her!'" to another assistant, Parnas claimed, and the assistant replied, "Mr. President, I can't do that".

According to Parnas' lawyer Joseph Bondy, the recording was made by Fruman and shared with Parnas "shortly after its recording".

President's attorney had earlier said he would like to testify at Trump's impeachment trial as a witness. "I have a right to hire and fire ambassadors, and that's a very important thing", Trump said.

As ABC News previously reported, Parnas, who cooperated with the House impeachment probe of Trump, began providing materials that were in his custody to congressional investigators late previous year.
