The Detroit Pistons, along with the nation, are mourning the loss of basketball great Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash Sunday in southern California, officials say.

Finally, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe's longtime teammate and friend with the Lakers, shared his own condolences on Twitter with a series of pictures of the two of them together from back in the day while they were playing and winning championships. Our school community will always be grateful for his ongoing generosity to his alma mater, including his dedication of our Kobe Bryant Gymnasium and his support of our boys' and girls' basketball teams. Demi Lovato, who is set to make a comeback at tonight's show, wrote: "This makes me so sad".

President Donald Trump also offered condolences following Bryant's death in the crash, "That is awful news!"

The NBA's all-time leading scorer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who played for the Lakers from 1975-1989, said: "It's very hard for me to put in words how I feel". Kobe's life after basketball was just beginning and his second act was going to be even greater.

"Bryant concluded the message with an emoji of a bicep flexing, and the hashtag "#33644", one point more than he scored in his illustrious career.

As of yet, the cause of the crash is not known. "Then we heard some sputtering, and then a boom", he said.

Since his death was announced, there has been an outpouring of emotion from stars in the world of sports and entertainment. "Much respect my brother #33644", he tweeted on Saturday.

Football players and clubs from all over the world expressed their grief following the news of the five-time National Basketball Association champion's passing and Neymar followed up by paying his respects on the field.

'That's Kobe Bryant in the pink over the top of that silver vehicle, ' the man behind the camera narrates.

"Looking at my young players and seeing how devastated they are - they knew him - this is just shocking news for us".

The Grammy Awards have opened with a moment of silence for Kobe Bryant at the pre-telecast ceremony, at the same venue where he played for the Lakers. It was Gigi's love of the sport that reignited Bryant to watch the game; he told podcast All the Smoke taking her to a recent Laker game "was the first time I was seeing the game through her eyes".
