No passengers survived, according to Villanueva. Kobe's 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, was among the victims.

The two eventually made amends and were publicly amicable until Bryant's death.

NTSB member Jennifer Homendy said at a news conference that investigators will look at the pilot's history, the maintenance records and information on the helicopter's owner and operator. Along with two pictures that showed the two basketball legends smiling brightly, Johnson wrote that he would miss the conversations he and Bryant shared about "Lakers basketball, being fathers and husbands and how much we loved Italy".

The scene outside of the Staples Center is also bustling today, with Lakers fans swarming to pay homage to the long-time player as more celebrities arrive for the Grammy's ceremony.

The 18-time NBA All-Star won five championships and became one of the greatest basketball players of his generation during a 20-year career spent entirely with the Los Angeles Lakers.

In fact, Bryant saw Gianna, who wanted to play in the WNBA, as the heir to his legacy - something he confirmed in an appearance on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".

"I didn't really understand why the people were saying, "Do it for Mamba", Woods, an ardent Lakers fan and a Bryant admirer, told CBS Sports in a postround interview.

Hundreds of stars admired Kobe Bryant for his basketball talents and his drive to be the best, but Taylor Swift's response to the NBA legend's death on Sunday (Jan. 26) took a more personal tone.
