A fresh diagnosis of the deadly coronavirus has been confirmed in Southern California, bringing to three the number of cases in the U.S.as the fast-moving virus continues its spread and the global death toll spiked to 56.

Reporting in China News Service, a Chinese state-run media: "China is confident in its ability to end the novel coronavirus outbreak at a lower cost and a faster speed, health minister Ma Xiaowei said on Sunday, after being asked whether it would be more serious than the outbreak of SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) in 2003".

Authorities said on Sunday morning that around 56 people have died so far in China, including death in Shanghai, one of the largest cities in China.

What's more, China's health minister, Ma Xiaowei, made the claim that the virus could be spread without observable symptoms, which is a "game-changer", according to an adviser to the CDC.

The virus has also spread to 11 other countries, including Australia, France and the US, where two cases have been confirmed.

Five cases have also been reported in Hong Kong, two in Macao and three in Taiwan.

Beijing cancels events for the Lunar New Year starting on January 25, while officials report the first death outside of Hubei.

"Make sure you have processes in place and consider where people have travelled and particularly be conscious of people returning from China", she said.

Scans showed the virus may be present in the lungs of individuals with no obvious symptom, making it near impossible to identify and contain people.

That decision could well be reassessed in coming days as the situation evolves, said Anthony Fauci, the US National Institutes of Health's top infectious disease official, adding that it was "open to question" whether shutting down travel would have a major effect.

The latest case a 40-year-old man who entered the country on a bus with a Chinese tour group.

"I believe the Wuhan city government can defeat this (epidemic)", said a man who gave only his surname, Wan. Toyota Motor Corp. has halted business trips to Hubei province, including Wuhan. NSW Health said on Sunday afternoon a fourth person had tested positive, according to their preliminary test results, though more follow-up was needed.

The US government is arranging a charter flight to evacuate American diplomats and citizens from Wuhan, a US official with knowledge of the matter told CNN on Saturday.

French automaker PSA, which produces Peugeot and Citroen cars, said Saturday it was evacuating its expatriate employees and their families from Wuhan and quarantining them in another city.

Authorities said it would take up to 48 hours to confirm whether the woman had contracted the virus.

Wuhan is racing to build two makeshift virus-focused field hospitals within a fortnight to ease the pressure.
