Mike Hoffman scored the victor and added an assist after lost Toronto lost starting goalie Frederik Andersen to injury as the Florida Panthers battled back from a 3-1 third-period deficit to defeat the Maple Leafs 5-3 on Monday night.

In their fourth game in six days since returning from the All star break, the Rangers faced off in an original six match up against Tavares and the Toronto Maple Leafs on Girls and Women in Sports Night at MSG.

Frederik Andersen will be in the crease on Monday night against Florida.

"He went through that whole process", Andersen said of concussion testing.

"At this point they're diagnosing him with a neck injury", Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said. "But that doesn't mean anything unless they're good enough to play, which we feel that both of them certainly are". Andersen was slow to get up, but remained there for the remaining minute and 36 seconds of the period. The 28-year-old had a career year in 2018-19, boasting a.928 save percentage and 2.30 goals against average in 31 games, but has seen some regression this season.

Only time will tell if Campbell can solve some of the goaltending trouble the Leafs now find themselves in.

Ryan Miller stopped 30 shots for the Ducks, who were forced to go with five defenceman for the third period and overtime after Erik Gudbranson left with an upper-body injury.

This is an issue that the Maple Leafs have dealt with in past campaigns as well - the ability to close out contests.

But with the four third-period goals, the Panthers were able to, once again, overtake the Maple Leafs in the divisional standings.

A team that began the season with Stanley Cup aspirations, Toronto's star-studded roster sat outside the Eastern Conference playoff picture heading into Thursday's action - a point back of Florida for third in the Atlantic Division, and two adrift of the second wild-card spot with the February 24 trade deadline looming.

But Pysyk got the visitors back within one at 2:20, burying his sixth on a rebound. "We got a little energy going after the second".

More to come shortly. "Just took pride in giving the opposition nothing and (we) seemed to be enjoying that". It's a huge win. "If we play that type of game 100 times, we probably win 99 of them".

Matthews now sits tied with Washington's Alex Ovechkin for second in the overall goal race, and is one back of Boston's David Pastrnak. He made seven saves on eight shots against the Panthers before leaving.

As for Pysyk, he was a big part of the Panthers offence on Monday, scoring three of the team's five goals. Marie Greyhounds. The general manager of the Greyhounds at the time was none other than another hockey phenom, 25-year old Kyle Dubas. Mitch Marner chipped in with two assists. Matthews scored his 37th as he looks ahead to 50.

Auston Matthews, right, celebrates his goal with teammate Mitchell Marner during the second period.

The Leafs were nothing like the outfit that collapsed defensively after scoring goals Wednesday. The Canadiens are a middle of the road team in terms of their statistics compared to the rest of the league but need to improve their defense if they want a shot at the playoffs.
