"This is incredibly important for us, the vast majority of our cases have been imported cases", said B.C. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Farnworth said it will also mean a quicker, co-ordinated response between federal, provincial and local governments, adding the declaration can be renewed after two weeks.

Seven cases have been found in the Interior and four in the Northern health region, Henry said.

She also said more cases have been traced to attendees at a large dental conference in Vancouver on March 6 and 7. "We are asking anyone who attended to self-isolate until March 22, 2020".

Henry also announced the mandatory closure of bars and clubs in B.C., saying they don't allow people to remain one-to-two metres away from each other. And in 2017, the province was in a state of emergency for 10 weeks, from July 7 to September 15, again due to wildfires. Hospitals will review operating-room capacity daily to prioritize urgent and emergency cases.

Lions Gate Hospital has put on a heightened "phase three outbreak response" because of the cases identified among staff at the hospital.

Pharmacists in British Columbia, meanwhile, are now able to provide medication refills to patients without an updated prescription from a doctor or nurse practitioner. But it says in a statement there is no need to stockpile medications because that practice could harm the drug supply while putting others at risk. Now peace officers can enforce the requirement under the Public Health Act.

Long-term care facilities are now being restricted to essential visitors only.

"This is a time to support our friends, family and communities".

The province has recorded 30 more cases of COVID-19 since Saturday, bringing the total to 103 in B.C. Six people are in hospital with coronavirus.

However, she said that B.C., "like every single province and territory ... has extremely close, extremely dense, social and economic connections with the U.S". Information is available in more than 110 languages. Restaurants and cafes that can not maintain social distancing of one to two meters between patrons will need to move to take-out and delivery models.

The government can now also enforce an order for people coming back from overseas to remain in self-isolation for 14 days. This includes indoor and outdoor sporting events, conferences, meetings, religious gatherings and other similar events.

The declaration orders bars and nightclubs in the province to close and could restrict restaurants to serving takeout or delivery food only. This order came into effect 11:59 a.m. today.
